Theres a story, an essay, or a poem in there someplace. You werent paying attention to your surroundings.

When we open ourselves up to our environments and take in the details, we will discover inspiration in the most not likely of places.

Get inspired with observational writing.

Whether its discovering the way sunlight flickers through the auburn and golden leaves of a maple tree at high twelve noon on an autumn day or the behavior of people in an airport, motivation is plentiful all around you. Youll miss it if youre not paying attention.

Todays post is an excerpt from Ready, Set, Write: A Guide to Creative Writing This is from a chapter entitled “Observation,” which checks out drawing composing motivation from the important things you observe in daily life.

Think of that youre sitting in an airport, waiting to pick up a buddy whose flight is delayed. You put on your earphones and set your tablet on your lap.

If you are paying attention, you can absorb it, procedure it, and put it into your writing. Thats the power of observation, and if you can cultivate it, youll get some of your best concepts from taking in the world around you (and the individuals in it).

You do not notice 2 males wearing fits, who are standing outside of a café, having a heated argument. The elderly lady frowns and mutters, “I saw them set it down. At the airport gift store, a delivery male drops a plan on his foot, and 2 kids perusing keepsakes point and laugh, but not at him.

Make a note of your observations, recalling as lots of details as you can remember. Repeat this activity from time to time, and see if your observation skills improve.

Whether youre going to a celebration with pals or going to a shop or simply taking a walk around your neighborhood, make an effort to pay attention to whatever around you. After your outing, write down every information you can keep in mind.

After your trip, document every information you can keep in mind. Who was there? What did they appear like? Who were they with? What were they using? What were they doing? What did they state? How did the location look? Was it brilliant or dim? Warm or cool? How did it smell? What noises did you hear?
