You can register to be notified when we announce the webinar date here: https://writersfunzone.com/blog/edit-your-novel-webinar/.

On to among our often asked concerns about modifying your novel.

Were still limiting the topics. You can help us by sharing about your biggest challenges in modifying your book in this brief study here: http://bethb.net/eynsurvey.

This post is on idea of modifying your unique overwhelming you … however initially some updates.

Q: How do I avoid feeling overwhelmed at the idea of editing my book?

A: Ah, I hear you … Ironically, the very first action to preventing sensation overwhelmed at modifying your book is to actually feel your feelings.

We need our emotions to write strong compelling novels.

Heres a procedure you can utilize to attend to the overwhelm:

I invite you to take a minute and take note of your breathing. No requirement to change it or make it any various than it is.

Where do you feel the overwhelm in your body?

Is it chunky? Is it irritable? Is it like a bouncing ball?
What does it seem like? Fixed? Chalkboard scratching? (Sorry.).
What does it odor like? Acrid or peppery? (A smell I do not like!).
What does it look like? A scribble in black ink?
How about taste? Bitter? Bland?
What other qualities does your overwhelm include?

Notification the quality of your overwhelm.

Just see where your attention wanders and discover how the overwhelm is impacting your body.

Notification also where the overwhelm is impacting your thinking and your emotions.

Simply observe and continue putting attention on your breath.

There is no best answer. Just what you notice. Only your experience.

When Im overwhelmed is that it is such a jumble that its like a tsunami coming at me I cant outrun, what I observe.

Overwhelm is actually probably a mix of feelings and experiences and thoughts.

What is it like for you? How would you identify the overwhelm?

Can you determine the thoughts and the sensations and the feelings in the body that are happening as you experience them?

I see tightness in my solar plexus and how Im clenching my jaw and how between my shoulder blades it feels like theres a tight knot.

Already I have actually not asked you to make any changes, just to observe. Now its time to make some changes.

The dominant idea when Im overloaded is: I cant do this. And I suck. Why did I think I could ever modify a novel?

We can then start to identify different threads when we slow down and pay attention to all the subtleties happening inside of us.

You might discover that shifts are already beginning to take place. Or not. Thats okay.

If Im seated I likewise discover how I cross my legs and hold them stiff, rigid, as if Im attempting to prop myself up against the ground.

Now ask yourself: what would I like?

For instance, when I am feeling overwhelmed, I let myself feel the sensations and believe the ideas. I believe about what it is that I desire for myself throughout the minutes Im modifying my novel.

This is the process to go from overwhelmed to action– the action being really modifying your book.

However it didnt in the beginning. And thats alright.

Visualize the success that you thought up. Feel it in your body. Feel it as you breathe.

I do this practically every time I take a seat to write. Its like a training. Im training my brain to be increasingly more comfortable with the editing process and given that I am now editing like my 15th book, I have a lot of practice while doing so and it frequently goes rather quickly for me.

Your Turn: Think about Editing Your Novel.

How does that feel? You get to choose how the modifying process is for you.

Paint a picture for yourself, the ideas, sensations, the physicality, the picture like a little movie, your readers experience, all of it and any of it. Perhaps you include other individuals in your musing, like a high-five with your enjoyed one, your roomie, or your cat.

What would I like the editing procedure to be like?
How would I like it to feel?
What are the experiences I wish to have while editing?

I want to do great work in the brief time I have to work on my book today.

The tail end of dealing with overwhelm is imagining yourself having the experience that you wish to have.

Think of how you want to think of yourself during the modifying process and think of the experience overall.

You are a dreamer, a dreamer putting your dreams onto the page. You can do this. You got this.

I want to have my heart open.

I want to feel excited about my project, and I want readers to be delighted to check out the book. I desire to think, “I can do this.” And I desire my readers to be so drawn into the story that they dont even realize theyre checking out.

You may understand that athletes do this. They picture themselves running the race and crossing the goal and how it feels and how theyre doing exceptionally. They trained for this. You were training for this now.

And when Im done editing for the day, I wish to feel accomplished.

I want to be focused.

When I consider what I want for myself when I sit down to modify today, I think of: excitement.

I want to feel engaged and mentally connected to my characters so that my readers will too.

You get to choose.

Put some time on this right now. Let your breathing do what it does and think of how you wish to feel about the editing procedure.

re: editing your novel.

I wish to feel: I did it! Fist pumped into the air, huge grin on my face, a deep breath, a delighted dance.

Where do you feel the success in your body?

How do you translate visualization into action?

Real life is rather various than vision. Our task as artists is to take our vision or dream and put it into tangible form. Every minute that you get to practice that, you are doing terrific.

Practice experiencing your vision as you take a seat, as you gaze at your computer system screen, as you type, be in your vision. Notice what you see.

The most basic way to do this is to practice. Maybe you already have an editing time obstructed off on your calendar. Great.

Practice.

If you did not put time in your calendar today to deal with your book, when can you deal with your book?

You can even work for simply 3 minutes. Thats what Ezra says to himself during this hectic NaNoWriMo time while hes also working from house as a high school physics teacher.

He works, he types, and after that at some point later on he searches for and hes like, “Well I did more than I expected.” He certainly did way more than his 3 minutes, possibly he did five, possibly he did 30.

He sets up his iPad at his writing station and he announces to me that hes going to compose for three minutes. And then I see him stand there and get to work.

When can you mark time on your calendar?
And when can you absolutely for sure program up for your work?

So whats the takeaway here today for you?
