Mab and George: Will They Stay or Will They Go?

We got our mail today just prior to lunch. It is so tiresome getting it so late just as our letters need to go off. It does not give one time to digest your letter prior to I answer it. Please thank Dor extremely much for her jolly letter. I was so hoping she would compose and let me know how she delighted in the dance. I have actually been wondering if she would go to the Addiscombe or not. It would seem rather hard to leave her at home. We need to like a bread plate exceptionally but inform her not to rush about doing it, any time will do. Far I have had one pair of shoes soled, the brown thick lace-up pair, the others I have used very little and I have still one quite excellent pair of night shoes.

George will be really delighted to have Hockey and thanks you extremely much for it. You see, if we do go and live in Colombo, some time he will be able to play once again.

We are actually having extremely jolly weather here in spite of the monsoon. It is fine all day and comes on to drizzle about 6, when it is almost dark, so it does not affect us at all. I think the change is doing us both great, although things are so muddley recently, that we never ever understand what we may have to do next. It is quite well certain though that we shall not return to Horekelly but to Veyangoda. Mr Hartor has actually had notice given him and is to go at completion of the month so we shall go there as quickly as your house has actually been tidied up. If George is not desired for anything we shall most probably remain here up until the end of the month and after that decrease to Colombo. I anticipate we shall go to Horekelly for a day or more to see after things, but the Boy and Solomon will do all the packaging and bring the furniture by carts to Veyangoda. It will be a company bringing all our animals. I do hope my pussy will come all right. But of course absolutely nothing is settled yet and we need to just wait and see. We might not be at Veyangoda too long as Mr Norman would much rather have George in Colombo but that will depend upon just how much the Home Office will raise his income. He will have all the machinery under his charge and will need to visit Horekelly about as soon as a month. Veyangoda is very little nicer than Horekelly in numerous ways, but the truth of its being near Colombo is the great point in its favour and we shall have a sort of sensation that we are on the way to residing in Colombo. Nothing has actually been chosen about the case yet so we dont know if it is to be retried or not, it is tedious as it would have been good to have actually got it off our minds however these things always require time so it is no good stressing.

He desires to head out now so I should be fast and complete up. Please thank Jack for sending the A.C.C. Report. George is putting over it at this minute. George thanks him extremely much for sending out the papers about the elections. He was so pleased to have them.

George is ready so I need to state adoo. I do hope mother is much better. She must try and do as little as possible and rest as much as ever she can. I do want you could be in the house altogether and that cash werent so tight.

We actually dont know if we are going to remain on or not. Mr Norman is to let us understand tomorrow if he desires George to go back to Colombo or not. I do not believe it is extremely likely as George has actually put it to him that we cant manage to live at an hotel so if they desire us to go back, the Company should pay our expenses.
