We all compose in our journals. Thats how I begin my day, rattling off ideas, contributing to the order of business. Meandering around paragraphs, tripping through weed-infested sentences.
How numerous words are you composing?
Do you track your words in your journal?
Like walking 10,000 actions or practicing a new ability for 10,000 hours, I decided that 700,000 was close enough to a million to validate comment. Like all the above numbers, they are irrelevant but round and definitely great and simple to keep in mind.
All that throat clearing is to state that it often takes a thick journal of words to develop a small novel.
A short blog about the abundance of words..
Lets welcome back regular monthly writer Catharine Bramkamp as she shares with us “Squeezing the Write Words.” Take pleasure in!
I keep a running journal, a couple of years deep, and a few days ago, like finally inspecting the car odometer, I examined the word cumulation on my Scrivener program: 700,000 words.
Your Write Words.
Why does word count matter, other than to offer some pandemic bragging rights?
There are health benefits to allowing all that lumpen clay to emerge, ejected like a play dough press. We called it a maker, much sexier. It was a glorified garlic press, brilliant.
Anyhow, we have all these words, especially if we are female, and in a lockdown situation, there arent many places or individuals on which to inflict, er, express those words.
Like counting steps, or examining the step counting app.
Im a fan of drawing up principles and ideas and even dialogue in my journal because its a place with low stakes– nobody reads what I write or explore.
What does this mean?
What is the takeaway?
Why does it take numerous words, circling around the point like a mandala or maze to reach that clear main point?
All those almost million words are little bit more than crumpled origami cranes, soaking wet watercolor paper, lumps of clay that never reached their dreams of a matched set of mugs.
Producing words, composing words, getting around and around to finally arrive at the extremely concept you knew you had, but needed a course to reach them, is beneficial, even fun.
Definitely, some of our first thoughts might be our best, however most thoughts need a little later editorial aid.
All those words need to come out.
Therefore the million-word journal.
And from those million words can come a considerably smaller sized unique, a small blog, a short poem. But even as a supporter for straight-out imagination and experimentation, I was amazed at just how much experimentation, simply the number of words it takes, and the number of words to reject, before creating an ended up task– a glossy ideal book.
Back in the days of radio, typically it took an hour of work to produce a minute of on-air promo.
No, dont admit to them, count them definitely, admit nothing.
You dont need to admit that a lot of those words were extremely, as in I am extremely, very, bored and I truly, really, actually require to leave here.
I Write The Words … in My Journal.
When written in all caps, you dont have to confess to the swear words or all the expressions that carried more angst.
Delicately discussing that you simply composed a million words during lockdown is remarkable.
It takes countless words to produce a haiku, 10s of thousands of words to produce a blog site, hundreds of thousands of words to circle back, and launch that 70,000-word book.
The number of words does it require to reach the book, poem, or blog objective?
The number of words does it take to reach the poem, book, or blog goal?
Commemorate the procedure, since what is eventually enjoyable, is making all those words in the very first location.
Track it, see what it takes..
