What’s the Difference Between Good Writing and Great Writing?

Do you aim for terrific writing?

An excellent piece of writing holds your attention. It flows smoothly and everything makes sense. Its intriguing and a pleasure to check out.

Fantastic writing, on the other hand, doesnt just hold your attention; it commands your attention. You end up being lost in it. You cant put it down, and when you do, you desire to read it all over again.

The concern is, how do we define great writing?

I want to read as quickly as I can due to the fact that I cant wait to see what occurs next. I dont necessarily want to stop every few sentences to marvel at the language. I desire to keep turning those pages, and I do not desire to put it down.

When I find a book that has it all, Im always delighted. Books like those arent good or fantastic. Theyre damned near best.

Others would say that what matters most isnt the writing however whats being said. As long as the story or concepts are communicated plainly and as long as they are captivating, who cares how superb the sentences are? A terrific story doesnt need to use word wizardry; it simply needs to bring us off to another world.

Style vs. Substance

For the a lot of part, we look to the literary camp for design and we look to genre (or attempt I state– bestseller lists) for substance. That makes me wonder, should we set the bar a bit greater? Could we probably require more from our literature and from our own writing?

Do we identify terrific writing by the method words are strung together? Does story matter more than stunning writing? Or do we want all of it?

When I read a poem, I desire to be brought away by the poets style. I desire to stop and read the same line once again and again. I desire to be in awe of how authors can take imaginative liberties with language.

Heres how I see it: beautiful writing has style and useful writing has compound. Its rare to discover writing that has both.

Some would state that fantastic writing shows true mastery of the craft: every word is thoroughly chosen, every sentence is thoughtfully built, and every paragraph is brimming with significance and purpose. Youve experienced this kind of composing if youve ever marveled over a magnificently composed sentence.
